Jupiter — part 1 of 2 (1st draft)

Jupiter — part 1 of 2 (1st draft) Tube. Duration : 14.77 Mins.

Jupiter -- part 1 of 2 (1st draft) I ran across some amazing audio recordings on YouTube made by NASA's Voyager I & II probes as they swung close to Jupiter in 1979. The recordings are of Jupiter's magnetosphere and the surrounding solar wind, which have frequencies extending through the human auditory range (20Hz to 20kHz). I find these recordings quite haunting and beautiful, and decided to perform an experiment in which the Jupiter audio is gradually replaced by my own looped vocalizations. This composition is definitely influenced by the music of György Ligeti (see "Atmospheres" here: www.youtube.com ) plus definitely some looping and improvisational sensibilities borrowed from Robert Fripp (see "Frippertronics" here: www.youtube.com — appropriately dating from 1979 as well). In this twenty-minute ambient piece, you hear the original NASA recordings by themselves for roughly eighty seconds, at which point I begin to fade in the first of three vocal loops. The remaining vocal loops fade in and grow in intensity over the next several minutes. By the ten minute mark (halfway), the original NASA recording fades out completely so that •everything• you hear beyond this point is produced purely by my human vocalizations. In addition to my singing, various ambient noises are introduced, including a low frequency rumble produced by lightly blowing on the pickup element of a condenser microphone (these microphones have remarkable low end response characteristics). Halloween Theme + "Something Pretty This Way Comes" (1st draft)

Halloween Theme + "Something Pretty This Way Comes" (1st draft) Video Clips. Duration : 5.85 Mins.

"Halloween" Theme / "Something Pretty This Way Comes" (draft) [Uma desculpa para María] As we drift from post-Halloween into Thanksgiving, I came up with a five-part "morph" between two pieces of music — starting with an acoustic guitar cover of the creepy theme from the 1978 film "Halloween," I gradually layer two new guitar parts and a vocal and percussion track to slowly shift into a separate tune I call "Something Pretty This Way Comes." The end result (the final minute or so) has very little to do with the original theme; it's somewhat Brazilian in nature and definitely inspired by the late-1980s sound of the Pat Metheny Group. I hope you enjoy this odd musical piece and surreal video — I'm quite proud of the end result. The whole project came together remarkably fast this morning within four hours. It took about a half hour for me to learn to play the original theme, and then about two hours of composing, arranging and recording, plus another hour and a half of post-production tweaks to the final video and audio files. COPYRIGHT NOTICE I am not the holder of the original copyright to the theme music nor video. Under fair use terms, I post this video purely for educational purposes to illustrate the process of musical arrangement.
