I finally figured how to record into GarageBand while recording a video with my camera and then go into iMovie and delete the camera audio and replace it with what I recorded... so the audio is really nice, however some of the alignment/video quality may be off... If you haven't heard of this band, you should totally check them out. They're pretty amazing. I use this cable... www.google.com ...so that the two mono 1/4" cables plug into the L and R Master Out on the TD20 module, and the 3.5mm stereo jack end plugs into my Macbook, I then record right into Garageband. I use a 1/4" stereo to 3.5mm stereo cable from the mix in to my iPod for playing along to music. By default the TD20 records the mix in to the master out. If anyone records a drum cover with a track playing from your iPod through the TD20's Mix in jack, you would not be able to boost the volume of the drums, or boost the volume of the track, because the mix in is being sent to the master out. (drums and audio being recorded as one track) I wanted to have the freedom to control the audio level of both the drums and the audio, so I changed the Mix in settings to be outputted to the headphones only. I changed this by pressing the following on the TD20: Setup - F2 - F4 ...and changed the output on the Mix In to headphones only. This meant when I recorded my drum cover, ONLY my drums were recorded into Garageband. I then added the music in as a separate track. Of course, a Firewire or M-Audio recording interface would be ideal, but this setup works ...

It is a dolby headphone decoder unit that adds virtual surround sound to any stereo headphone or headset for 90 dollars while Astro's Mixamp sells for 130 dollars. So the DSS is more of a mixamp for those with budget in mind. But as with everything, you're getting what you pay for. There are some differences in features between the Astro Mixamp and the Turtle Beach DSS. - Virtual surround sound is the same. Turtle Beach advertises the DSS as a 7.1 decoder, but optical signals cannot transfer over 5.1. What Turtle Beach does here is emply Dolby Pro Logic IIx that takes 2 channels from the 5.1 signal and then duplicates them(matrixes them) to add 2 more channels. So it's sort of like you have 2 more speakers playing the exact same sound as the other speakers are playing, doesn't really provide another cue of positioning. In any case, I refer to this kind of processing as "virtual virtual 7.1". So like I say in the video, performance between the DSS is comparable to the other popular decoders out there today. -While the Astro Mixamp has Coaxial, RCA, and optical inputs, the DSS only has an optical input and a 3.5mm input.
